Anthonio Marras, Milan Fashion Week AW'11
Lady-like chic, with polished beauty from the 1940s and 1950s, which was drawn from Antonio Marras's memories of his mother's elegance. "I remember her on my first day of school, and she was wearing a little black dress, and carrying a little crocodile handbag," the Sardinian designer said backstage. "Other times, she would find old men's jackets and re-model them with her dressmaker. So you see, my idea of recycling and vintage started when I was very young." The jackets were remade from vintage menswear, and reworked with lace, fur and feathers. Set to a back drop of an image of Marras's mother, the models walked down in striped Breton tops with sailor collars, and pretty soft navy and cream skirts. I am a bit of a magpie for stripes, so I particularly liked the navy looks in the collection and thought the soft cream dresses paired with red lipstick looked beautifully chic.
