National Tourist Route, Havoysund by Reiulf Ramstad Architects

I know myself how appealing the landscape of Norway is. Towards the extreme north of Norway, near the Arctic Ocean, it's barren, inhospitable but wildly beautiful. This is where Oslo-based practice Reiulf Ramstad Architects has designed a winding concrete walkway to enhance the experience of walking from the roadside down to the seaside. Although a little tedious, you could just simply walk from A to B, the new addition re-focuses awareness of the visitor on the landscape and opens up the shoreline to all ages, with the addition of ramps, built-in benches and tables.

Denizen Sauna by Denizen Works + Friends

How cute is this little sauna on the Finnish archipelago, Åland, between Sweden and Finland! Built and made in 9 days last summer by London architects Denizen Works + Friends, the black stained shed is designed to be towed onto the frozen lake in the winter months like a large-scale sledge. From my trip to Scandinavia last year, I can't think of a better way than to get away from the dark months in a little black-stained timber lodge.

Richard Mosse's Congo Landscapes

Richard Mosse is an Irish photographer who captures various post-war and post-disaster landscapes, ranging from the Congo jungle, to former Yugoslavia, and earthquake-devastated Iran. The below pictures of the Congo were created with a recently discontinued Kodak infrared film, transforming the rolling hills and jungle vegetation into an artifical pink environment.

Matthew Brandt- Lakes and Reservoirs

Photographer Matthew Brandt, who lives and works in Los Angeles, California, creates these colourful photographs, which are almost like works of art in themselves. The unique effect is formed by soaking the printed colour photographs in the specific lake or reservoir that they represent.

David Hanauer Google Earth Carpets

David Hanauer creates these amazing carpets, of patterned landscape, from screenshots taken from Google Earth. A bird's eye view is taken over various cities and countries, from New York to the Arctic, and then reproduced and repeated to represent a pattern. The Munich-born designer took inspiration from traditional Persian carpets, with their ornate decoration, to form a project of 21st Century carpets, that combines ideas of identity, google and architecture. The aerial photography is transformed from town-planning and urban architecture into abstract designs, that are themselves beautiful.

Layered Landscapes by Nobuhiro Nakanishi

Nobuhiro Nakanishi is a Japanese artist from Fukuoka, who, after studying an MA in Fine Art Sculpture, has gone on to create these intriguing layered installations, which have been exhibited at the Mori Art Museum in Tokyo and the Contemporary Art Centre in Osaka. The photographs of misty landscapes and sunsets are layered up on perspex to create an elongated panorama.
