Claudio Parentela

Italian artist, illustrator and photographer, Claudio Parentela recently emailed over these collages to Studio 325. Reminiscent of Prada's recent Pop Art inspired Spring 2012 lookbook in a past post, they combine fashion photographs layered with Picasso and Matisse-esque scribbles and marks.

Victor Enrich distorted photography

Now these take some photoshop skill! Created by Spanish photographer, Victor Enrich, these images are digitally manipulated views of the city that form fantastical post-modernist structures. In a time when each 'starchitect' is competing for the title of 'most creative building or 'most advanced structure', Enrich takes this to the extreme, with split skyscrapers, gigantic red postboxes and balancing staircases.

Map works by Matthew Cusick

Texan artist, Matthew Cusick creates these fascinating artworks by cutting apart maps according to shade and colour and pasting them onto boards to form collages depicting landscapes, highways and people. The particular maps he uses for certain work have a deeper meaning than purely for their shade of colour: “The people I construct out of maps represent certain ideas and moments in time that resonate deeply with me,” he says. “The maps I choose for each work relate to that person’s timeline and history. I’ll use these maps as a surrogate for paint but also as a way to expand the limits of representational painting. Each map fragment is employed both as a brush stroke and a unit of information. The human form acts as a matrix in which inlaid maps from different places and times coalesce into a narrative.”

Fendi- Milan Fashion Week AW'11

Karl Lagerfield and Sylvia Venturini, came together this season with a collection that was inspired by collage and the work of artist Kurt Schwitters. There were roomy, boxy jackets, placed with mustard coloured tights and boiled patchwork-pocketed wool skirts. The clothes showed a spectrum of autumnal colours, with navys, browns and coppers, which perfectly reflected the vintage brown paper of Schwitters's collages. These were interjected with bright red tights and azure blue handbags, inspired by the odd interspersed colour of his artwork. The clothes remained playful, with undulating curves to collars and fur jackets, stopping the curves from looking to countryfied in their colour and aesthetic. I personally loved the boxy jackets, which had subtleties in stripes of colour or button holes.
