Chanel, Paris Fashion Week AW'11

Karl Lagerfield's collection for Chanel this week was smoky, firey and full of attitude. Retaining the brand's ladylike chic and pretty aesthetic, the clothes had a biker chick feel with leather boots and boiler suits. The set of the show in Paris set of the atmosphere, with dry ice and black lava smoking below the wooden catwalk. The show had a rawness about it, both in the set design and the raw-edged tweeds and textural fabrics of the clothes. Often his past collections have looked youthful, pretty and girly, whereas this one was more androgynous and a little bit darker in theme. The move to a new apocalyptic look is a good move for an Autumn/Winter collection and I think it shows some of the simple silhouettes Coco Chanel was so well-known for.
